Dr Caitríona Doughty is a chartered Clinical Psychologist with British Psychological Society and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). She graduated from University College of Dublin in 2008 with an honors degree in Psychology. She obtained an MSc in Abnormal and Clinical Psychology in Swansea University, Wales in 2009. Caitríona worked as an Assistant Psychologist with Abertawe Bromorgannwg University (ABMU) NHS Trust in Tier 3 Eating Disorder Service. She also worked as an Assistant Psychologist with ABMU NHS Trust in the Primary Care Adult Mental Health Service providing stress management classes. Following this Caitríona completed a doctorate in Clinical Psychology with Edinburgh University. After qualifying as a Clinical Psychologist in 2016, she worked as a Clinical Psychologist in secondary care adult mental health in NHS Fife. Caitríona joined the Imagine Health team in 2018.
Caitríona has experience working with various mental health problems in the areas of anxiety, depression, post traumatic stress disorder, eating disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder and personality disorders. She uses a number of treatment modalities such as compassion focused therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and schema therapy. Caitríona enjoys research and has published papers in peer reviewed journals in the area of emotion dysregulation.
Caitríona has a particular interest in Compassion Focused Therapy and how compassion can be incorporated into every aspect of her work “Compassion is the courage to descend into the reality of human experience” (P.Gilbert).
